Former Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter has landed a new job.

He's joining the faculty at Columbia University this semester as a professor in urban policy.

Nutter said he's deeply honored that he was asked to teach, tweeting Wednesday: "Proud to have been appointed at Columbia U, a great school, & an opportunity to share lessons in urban policies with incredible students."

In a statement posted on Columbia's website, Dean Merit Janow said: "I'm delighted that Michael Nutter will be joining the SIPA faculty this semester. As mayor of one of our nation's largest cities, he has earned a national reputation as a leader in urban public policy- addressing key challenges in economic development, public safety, environmental innovation and many others. I know we will all benefit from his insights and experience."

Earlier this month, Nutter was named to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's advisory council.
