Woman jumps to escape flames in East Mt. Airy home

EAST MOUNT AIRY (WPVI) -- A woman jumped from a window to escape the flames inside an apartment in Philadelphia's East Mount Airy section.

The fire broke out around midnight Friday on the 6300 block of Morton Street.

Police say the 47-year-old woman jumped from a third floor window after a fire erupted inside a trash can.

The victim suffered head and leg injuries.

She was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Firefighters were able to put the blaze out quickly.
