PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) --Philadelphia police started a major crackdown Sunday on dirt bikes and ATVs in the city.
Investigators seized 53 vehicles and made three arrests.
The initiative was part of a coordinated effort by police all across the city.
The crackdown is designed to make the city streets a bit safer.
"Very big problem. We have a lot of complaints from the community. It's complete lawlessness. These individuals run up and down the sidewalk. People are afraid to let their children play in areas where the dirt bikes are riding.
"They rip up recreation areas, they rip up the parks they're in. They have no regard for the safety of anyone," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Dennis Wilson.
Dirt bikes and ATVs are illegal in Philadelphia, unless driven on private property.
Police encourage everyone to call 911 if you see any kind of illegal activity in your neighborhood.
