New first responders for the first state

NEW CASTLE, Del. (WPVI) -- Some future paramedics started training Monday in New Castle, Delaware.

17 recruits were chosen from 600 applicants to start the new paramedic academy.

They will have 2 weeks of learning policies and procedures.

Then their emergency training begins for a year.

They'll be deployed by the summer of 2017 as fully certified paramedics.
