Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a 17-year-old boy injured in Wilmington. (WPVI)

Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a 17-year-old boy injured in Wilmington.

It happened around 6:44 p.m. Thursday in the area of 2nd and North King streets.

Police say officers responding to a call attempted to stop the suspect when he fled on foot.

After a brief foot chase, the officers confronted the suspect in the 400 block of West 3rd Street.

According to police, the suspect fell to the ground, and then got up and allegedly pointed a weapon at one of the officers.

And, that's when the suspect was shot by the officer in the right knee.

He was taken to Christiana Hospital in good condition.

Officers recovered a replica handgun from the suspect on the scene.

The officers were not injured.

The defendant is to be charged with aggravated menacing and resisting arrest.
