PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Memorial Day weekend is just a few days away and while there's tons of fun to be had at the shore, you don't have to leave town to enjoy the fun-filled unofficial kickoff to summer.

There are so many upsides to a holiday weekend in the city - no traffic and lots of parking spots.

VisitPhilly.com rounded up some of the hottest happenings for the upcoming holiday weekend.

First, this weekend the Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest is back on Columbus Boulevard. There's roller skating, a nine-hole mini-golf course and urban beach lounge.

Saturday night, the Philly Pops are performing Philly's first major Memorial Day Salute concert this year at the Mann Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are free for

military members and first responders.

Also on Columbus Boulevard, Spruce Street Harbor Park is back for the season. The hammocks are up and there's food, drinks, games and more.

Memorial Day is intended to honor our service members, and at the National Constitution Center will have a thank-a-vet letter station, giant flag folding lessons, free concerts and crafts.

The Chinese Lantern Festival is happening right now at Franklin Square. The park is illuminated with dozens of lanterns. There's also food, performances and a 200 foot Chinese dragon!

Finally - calling all shoppers! This weekend the Franklin Flea is coming to Reading Terminal Market with vintage items, artisanal food, furniture and so much more.
