STANTON, Del. -- The Delaware SPCA is closing its flagship animal shelter because of debt.

The shelter in Stanton will close in three weeks.

The property will be sold, and the money from the sale will go toward the SPCA's Georgetown location.

That's also where the animals will be relocated.

Officials say 20 employees will lose their jobs.

Friday's announcement comes one year after the SPCA spent $500,000 on new dog kennels and crates.
