3 workers hospitalized after trash truck overturns in Juniata Park

Three sanitation workers are recovering after the trash truck they were riding in crashed and overturned. (WPVI)

Three sanitation workers are recovering after the trash truck they were riding in crashed and overturned in the Juniata Park section of Philadelphia.

It happened at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday on East Hunting Park Avenue at L Street.

Police tell Action News the driver told investigators he swerved to avoid an oncoming compact car.

The truck flipped onto the driver's side and struck a mailbox, a utility pole and a fence.

The 58-year-old driver was taken to Temple University Hospital to be treated for head, back and neck pain.

Two passengers in the truck were also taken to area hospitals.

A 39-year-old man was taken to Temple with a broken forearm and possible rib fractures.

And a 58-year-old man was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital to be checked out for head, neck and back pain.

East Hunting Park Avenue was closed in both directions from K Street to Dungan Street for more than two hours as police investigated and crews worked to remove the truck.
