Training for protesters held ahead of Democratic National Convention

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Members of clergy and Civil Rights activists teamed up Saturday to hold training for protesters ahead of the Democratic National Convention.

Organizers say the training, held at Arch Street United Methodist Church, is to make sure protesters understand their rights and to help keep them safe.

Those who showed up took part in the role-playing exercises.

And in light of recent killings by police officers, protesters will designate certain people to act as so-called 'cop watchers.'

They're responsible for recording officers responding to the protests.

Many of them tell us they feel confident Philadelphia police are prepared.

"I think the police here are awesome. They've improved with community relations a lot over the past few years," said Stan Horwitz, protester. "But it doesn't hurt to be prepared."

Organizers also discussed what to expect if you're arrested and how to post bail.

Three more sessions are scheduled during the coming weeks.
