A man was shot outside of a charter school in North Philadelphia.

NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A man was critically injured in a shooting outside of a charter school in North Philadelphia.

It happened on the 200 block of West Cambria Street around 2:15 a.m. Thursday.

Police on patrol heard the gunfire and found a 55-year-old man lying in the street, shot once in the back and once in the left leg.

He was able to ask for help, but fell unconscious before giving a suspect description.

The victim was taken to Temple University Hospital by police where he is listed in critical condition.

Police believe the gunman was chasing the victim at the time of the shooting.
