CAMDEN, N.J. -- Police are searching for the person who shot and killed a man who was described as a fixture in the Camden community.

"On April 1st, 2016, roughly around 8:30 p.m. metro police department responded to a 911 call of a report of a person shot in the intersection," said Det. Mike Sutley of the Camden Co. Prosecutor's Office.

Police arrived on the 500 block of Trenton Street in Camden and found 55-year-old Angel Soltero suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was taken to Cooper University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"We learned that the victim's vehicle had been taken, we believe taken from the scene," said Sutley.

Soltero used that vehicle to help out his neighbors.

"We know that he was very active in giving people rides from the East Camden section parts of the city to other parts of the city," Sutley said.

The stolen vehicle was found abandoned and intact several days later in the Parkside neighborhood.

The Citizens Crime Commission is administering a one-thousand dollar reward for the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.
