NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Detectives are looking for two armed robbers who targeted an American Legion hall in Northeast Philadelphia on Friday morning.
Police say the pair were waiting just outside a side entrance when a member, who cleans in the morning, took out the trash.
The suspects punched him, stole a box of cash, and fled out a side door.
"They knew about the box. They seem to think they've been in there," said Bill Bieringer of Legion Post 133.
Investigators say the box contained about $300.
The victim was taken to the hospital with a contusion to his head. He is expected to be okay.
Police say the armed robbers were wearing ski masks, so the victim didn't get a good look at them.
The American Legion is a patriotic service organization. The Post is essentially a social club with a bar.
Bieringer works at the Post and is also a member.
"People will do anything today," he said. "Makes me a little nervous when I leave here. On Wednesday night I close up and usually come out that door."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Philadelphia police.
