PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) --A car slammed into the back of another vehicle on City Avenue, near the Schuylkill Expressway on-ramp in Philadelphia's Wynnefield Heights section.
The crash happened around 3 a.m. Saturday when a 29-year-old driver was traveling northbound on the 3900 block of City Avenue.
That car struck the rear of a vehicle driven by an 18-year-old male.
Police say the car was traveling at a high rate of speed.
The impact of the crash caused the striking vehicle to hit a guardrail to the on-ramp of The Schuylkill then spin around.
The second vehicle, with five people inside, also spun out of control before landing in a grass median.
A rear seat 17-year-old passenger in the second vehicle suffered head trauma. He is in critical condition at Lankenau Medical Center.
Two other 17-year-old males and a 17-year-old female suffered facial scratches and minor neck and back injuries. They were all taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.
Police say the driver in the first vehicle may have been driving under the influence.
The Kelly Drive-Lincoln Drive exit on 76 eastbound was closed while the wreckage was cleared.
