PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Family, friends and colleagues said their final farewells to former Philadelphia fire commissioner Harold Hairston.
They gathered Thursday morning at New Covenant Church in Mount Airy.
Hairston was Philadelphia's first African American fire commissioner.
He spent 40 years with the department.
Mayor Jim Kenney called Hairston a dedicated firefighter who left a lasting impact on the city.
Hairston was 76-years-old.
