HAWTHORNE, N.J. (WPVI) -- There was a heartfelt reunion for a North Jersey woman and the Good Samaritan who helped rescue her from an icy pond.

Fatuma Kamara was on her way to work Sunday morning when she hit a patch of ice and plunged into a pond in Hawthorne.

Don McEwan called 911, took off his boots and coat, and jumped in the icy waters.

A police officer also jumped in, broke the glass with his baton, and together they pulled Kamara out.

"I came out without not even scratch, I'm just so thankful. It's just God that's all I can say, because I don't know how else I came out of that," said Kamara.

Kamara says McEwan's comforting words helped her keep her cool.
