Brawl at SEPTA subway station in Center City caught on camera

CENTER CITY (WPVI) -- An investigation is underway into a massive brawl caught on camera at a SEPTA subway station in Center City.

It happened Thursday at the Race-Vine Station.

SEPTA released the violent moments Sunday, caught on a cell phone by a bystander.

Wearing a backpack, a juvenile is seen repeatedly punching another teen's head.

In another shot, three teens punch and stomp on another individual, who is crouching on the ground for cover.

Authorities are not clear on what started the fight, that later turned into this melee, but now want to speak to the individuals in photos obtained by Action News.

SEPTA isn't describing them as suspects, but believe they participated in the violence.

We showed the brawl to passengers coming through the station at Broad and Race.

"It freaks me out. It just scares me," said Mackenzie McAplin of South Philadelphia.

"It's ridiculous. It's been going on though, it's not new. It's not new at all," said Justin Harris of Center City.

Earlier this month, a swarm of teens terrorized Center City, tussling near 15th and Chestnut at the peak of evening rush.

Police say a group of teenage girls were chased into a Wells Fargo and maced by those fighting in the streets.

As for the latest act of violence, SEPTA riders say they'll be more alert.

"It's not going to deter me. It's helpful that they have footage of it and they have photographs of maybe who did it or who started it. That makes me feel better, but it's not going to deter me," said McAplin.

Authorities say at least three people sustained minor injuries.
