Two women made history Monday in the Philadelphia Fire Department.

Linda Long was promoted to be the city's first female Fire Battalion Chief and Crystal Yates became the first African-American woman to serve as the Chief of Paramedic Services.

Yates, Long, and 22 other candidates were sworn-in to their new ranks at the Fire Academy in Northeast Philadelphia.

Fire Commissioner Adam Thiel says the department has been making a deliberate effort to recruit women firefighters and paramedics.
