Action News is told officers on patrol heard gunshots being fired and responded to the scene.

They approached two vehicles, one of which took off.

Two guns were tossed from the moving car a couple of blocks down the street. Two men, now described as persons of interest, were brought in for questioning.

The evidence back at the scene spoke for itself.

A car was riddled with bullets, and nearly two dozen shell casings were found on the ground.

One bullet narrowly missed a 57-year-old man who was sound asleep in his home. He found that bullet lodged in his bed post, just feet away from his head.

"He is just blessed. It wasn't his time... because a freak accident can happen to anybody at any given time," said neighbor Deborah Shuler.

To police it looked like no one was injured by the gunfire, until they got a call a short time later.

A 27-year-old man who had been wounded in the hail of gunfire was driven to Einstein Medical Center by two other men at the scene.

Hospital officials notified police.

The victim underwent surgery overnight and was listed in critical condition.
