New program to help Alzheimer's patients, families. Ali Gorman reports during Action News at 5 p.m. on May 9, 2017.

Camden County College, Rowan University, and Otsuka Pharmaceuticals launched a pioneering new program Tuesday to help Alzheimer's patients and their families.

It's the first to train and certify people to support Alzheimer's patients, as well as their families and caregivers.

The position is modeled after oncology navigators who have become an important part of cancer care.

More than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's disease; it affects the whole family, and that number could triple by 2050.
