SCOTCH PLAINS, N.J. -- Prosecutors say two people, believed to be father and son, were found dead inside their New Jersey home.

Neighbors do not know what to make of the mystery on their block in Scotch Plains.

Police and firefighters who responded to a phone call Saturday morning had to force their way inside of the small house, discovering the bodies of a child and a man.

The 48-year-old father and his 11-year-old son had recently moved into the home on Jersulam Avenue.

Neighbor John Crissom said all the commotion started around 9:00 a.m., beginning with police from Scotch Plains and the Union County Sheriff's Office, three fire engines and, eventually, a homicide investigation team.

The Scotch Plains Police Chief would only say they came to check on the welfare of the residents, then found both victims lifeless amid circumstances he deemed 'suspicious'.

"It's so sad, you don't want to see anyone lose their life, but an 11-year-old just starting his life, you know?" said Crissom.

An autopsy is scheduled on both victims.

The investigation is ongoing.
