2 dead after vehicle crashes, overturns in Northeast Philadelphia

LAWNCREST (WPVI) -- Police tell Action News a 24-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man were killed after a vehicle crashed and overturned in Northeast Philadelphia.

It happened before 2:30 a.m. Monday at Adams and Whitaker Avenues in Lawncrest.

Police say the vehicle was traveling southbound on Whitaker at a high rate of speed when the driver tried to turn onto Adams Avenue, hitting the curb then a utility box.

The impact caused the vehicle to flip over, ejecting the driver and passenger.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene at 2:35 a.m.

Adams Avenue was closed at Whitaker, and the outer lanes of the southbound Roosevelt Boulevard were closed at Adams Avenue, as police worked to determine what led to the crash.

All roads and lanes were back open by 6:15 a.m.
