2 dead in Philadelphia violent night

Police say 300 to 400 people had gathered for a barbeque in North Philadelphia.

NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Two people are dead and many others wounded after a violent night in Philadelphia.

At approximately 11:13 p.m. Saturday, police responded to the area of 8th Street and Berks Avenue to disperse a large crowd.

Police say 300 to 400 people had gathered for a barbecue when the crowd became unruly and fights began to break out.

As police tried to disperse the crowd, they heard gunshots on the intersection of 7th Street and Montgomery Avenue.

Officers discovered a 16-year-old male lying on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound to the back of the head.

He was transported to Temple University Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police say a 20-year-old male was shot in the back. He remains at Temple Hospital in critical condition.

Bullets also pierced the windshield of a police vehicle, but no officers were injured.

So far no arrests have been made in this shooting.

This was one of a number of shootings during a violent night in Philadelphia:

A man was killed outside a Tioga nightclub.

A man in his 20s was shot once in the abdomen in the 2900 block of North 8th Street around 11:30 p.m. The victim was taken by police to Temple University Hospital where he is in critical condition.

Two people were shot on the 5500 block of North American Street in Logan.

Another shooting in Logan around 10:00 p.m., on the 4600 block of Marvine Street, sent a man to the hospital.

A 17-year-old male was shot in twice in the buttocks after midnight in the 1300 block of McKinley Avenue in Oxford Circle. He is listed in stable condition.
