POPLAR (WPVI) -- More than 150 teenagers are using their summer break to help improve the city of Philadelphia.

The student volunteers spent the day working in Poplar.

They were sprucing up the Helping Hands Rescue Mission.

The teens came from across the U.S. and traveled here with their churches to spend an entire week dedicated to community service.

They'll be completing a number of other projects during their stay.
