WEST OAK LANE (WPVI) -- Some residents in the West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia woke up to a mess after an eight-inch water main broke overnight.

Muddy, rushing water from the broken main caused the road to buckle early Tuesday morning, and a large hole opened up beneath a car parked on the 70000 block of Ogontz Avenue.

The water department broke the bad news to the car owner.

"My doorbell rang about quarter to five this morning, and it was the water department," said Geraldine Woods told Action News. "And they told me, 'Whose car is that?' He said, 'You better come and move it because it's sinking.'"

Woods was unable to move her car and had to wait for a tow truck driver to get it out.

The water main break also left an estimated 25 homes without water service.

Crews were on the scene making repairs Tuesday morning.
