DAYTON, OH -- A child checking out a vacant home in an Ohio neighborhood made a gruesome discovery -- the mummified remains of the person who lived there.
"My son came home and said he said to me that he had gone into an abandoned house and he found a body," said Michelle McGrath. "I said, 'Wait, what?'"
The 12-year-old boy found the remains hanging in a closet. They're believed to be of 53-year-old Edward Brunton. According to investigators, he'd been hanging there for five years. He was found suspended from the neck by a belt in the closet.
Brunton bought the house in 2009 and the coroner says based on some evidence inside, he died shortly after that.
Neighbors who live nearby are stunned.
I didn't' realize there was anybody in the house," said neighbor Alberta Ballard. "Yes, I was shocked."
Even though it appears to be a suicide, an investigation is underway.
