CHESTER, Pa. (WPVI) -- The mother of a 10-year-old boy who was shot over the weekend in Chester is speaking out after her son was hospitalized a second time as a result of his injuries.

The shooting happened on Saturday afternoon near the intersection of West 9th Street and Engle Street.

Police say the boy - 10-year-old Tony Campbell - was not the intended target.

The boy's family tells Action News the boy was taken to Crozer Chester Medical Center, but they released him the next day.

Now there are complications and the boy is at A.I. duPont Hospital.

He had surgery earlier today.

Tonight the boy's mother, Kristy Hummell, is angry about why he was released from the hospital the day after getting shot.

She says, "The doctors here are telling me that Crozer should have never discharged him. Why did they discharge a 10-year-old kid that just got shot in the stomach?"

Crozer officials say the care they gave the boy was appropriate, but they can't comment on care given at another hospital.

Police have a 17-year-old in custody in connection with the shooting, and that charges are pending.
