Authorities say charges have been filed in a hit-and-run crash that left a grandfather dead and his grandson injured in Philadelphia's East Mt. Airy section.

EAST MT. AIRY (WPVI) -- Authorities say charges have been filed in a hit-and-run crash that left a grandfather dead and his grandson injured in Philadelphia's East Mt. Airy section.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. Friday at East Gorgas Lane and Ardleigh Street.

Authorities say the pair were inside a red sedan when a green SUV collided into their vehicle.

The 73-year-old man behind the wheel of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 13-year-old boy was treated for minor injuries.

The 21-year-old driver and the 27-year-old passenger of the striking SUV, who were also described as injured, got out of the car and fled the scene on foot.

A short time later, the driver was apprehended on the 6800 block of Sprague Street and the passenger was caught on the 300 block of Gorgas Lane.

Investigators believe that drugs and/or alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

Both the driver and passenger from the striking SUV are facing charges.

Sources tell Action News that the grandfather had just picked up his grandson from football practice at the time of the accident.

The accident remains under investigation.
