MILLTOWN, Del. (WPVI) -- A community in Delaware came together to give a Wilmington woman a proper burial.

64-year-old Valeria Mayer passed away January 8th.

An ad was put in the paper asking family and friends to claim her body but nobody did.

Employees at the medical center where she was treated stepped in.

They got All Saints Cemetery in Milltown to donate a plot.

Delaware State troopers also saw the ad and acted as pall bearers.

"It seems it this particular case that the Delaware State Police Honor Guard, who participates in funerals all throughout the year for dignitaries and retired troopers, had the opportunity to give back in a way they traditionally don't have a chance to," said Sgt. Jeff Whitmarsh, Delaware State Police.

Had nobody stepped in, Mayer's unclaimed body would've been buried in a numbered state grave.
