WEST PHILADELPHIA -- Police say a dog was shot and killed during an attempted robbery in West Philadelphia Saturday.

The incident happened just before 1:00 p.m. on Lancaster Avenue.

Officers responded to the Central Collision property after reports of gun shots heard in the area.

When they arrived, a man approached them and said two males attempted to run him at gun point.

The victim's dog, a Cane Corso tried to intervene and police say, that's when one of the suspects shot and killed the dog.

Both suspects then fled the scene.

The suspect who is believed to be the shooter is described as a black male, 6'0" tall and and 135 pounds. He was wearing a black hoodie, black mask and black pants.

The second suspect is described as a white male, 6'0" tall, 230 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie and pants.
