Philadelphia police are investigating a shooting that ended with the victim crashing his car in Tioga-Nicetown.

Police say a 28-year-old male driver was traveling south on North 17th Street towards Erie Avenue around 3:45 a.m. Sunday when another vehicle with at least two men inside drove towards him head-on.

Police say the men in the other vehicle began to open fire on the victim.

According to police, the 28-year-old man managed to put his vehicle into reverse and start to back up north on 17th for a block when he crashed into a parked car.

Police discovered 27 shell casings near the corner of North 17th and Erie Avenue.

The injured driver was removed from his car by police and rushed to Temple University Hospital where he is in critical but stable condition.

Investigators believe the victim had been arguing with the suspects prior to the incident at another location.
