HAMMONTON, N.J. -- A former southern New Jersey high school band director has admitted he sexually assaulted a student.

The Press of Atlantic City reports that 27-year-old Jason Koenig, of Hammonton, faces a five-year sentence after pleading guilty Monday to official misconduct and sexual assault. He also will have to register as a sex offender.

Koenig resigned as director of the Hammonton High School marching band in April, just days before he was charged in the case. Prosecutors say the alleged assaults occurred between November 2013 and January 1014.

A 2006 graduate of the school, Koenig also served as director of its jazz and marching bands. He had been employed there since 2009.
