NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Firefighters battled a blaze that damaged a grocery store and an apartment in North Philadelphia.

The fire broke out around 1:40 a.m. Thursday on the 100 block of West Girard Avenue.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke inside a store on the first floor that housed apartments above.

Officials say the apartments were empty, but a family next door was evacuated as a precaution.

That family has since been allowed back into their home.

So far, there are no injuries or word on what sparked the blaze.
