HUNTING PARK (WPVI) -- A 16-year-old girl is hospitalized after being struck by a stray bullet in front of her home in the Hunting Park section of Philadelphia.

The incident happened at 11:30 p.m. Thursday on the 4000 block of North 7th Street.

A 16-year-old girl was injured by a stray bullet in front of her home in the Hunting Park section of Philadelphia.

Police say the teen was on her front steps talking to her older sister when they heard a shot.

The teen then realized she had been shot in the thigh.

"She immediately ran into her house," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small. "That's where family members treated her."

Medics arrived and rushed the girl to the hospital. She's expected to make a full recovery.

Investigators don't know the motive, but do not think the victim was the target.

They are still trying to identify the shooter and hope nearby surveillance cameras will provide more details.

"At least four separate businesses in the immediate area have exterior surveillance cameras," said Small.

Anyone with information or tips about the case is asked to contact the Philadelphia Police East Detectives Division.
