A grandmother has quite a story to tell. She was stranded for nine days in the Arizona desert.

72-year-old Ann Rodgers was driving to Phoenix to visit her grandkids and ran out of gas somewhere in the wilderness.

Rodgers says she is always prepared and carries food and water in her car.

However, she ended up running out of resources and turned to survival mode which included eating desert plants.

"I also decided when I found an elk carcass bleached white, long gone, 12 point rack. Pulled that out on the sandy beach, pointed it towards a big sign that said help with an exclamation point made out of white stones and sticks," said Rodgers.

On day nine, she heard the sound she had been waiting for.

A helicopter coming down to rescue her.

Doctors treated Rodgers for exposure.

She was released that same night.
