Detectives are still on the lookout for suspect, in two shootings in the city's Grays Ferry section.

GRAYS FERRY (WPVI) -- Philadelphia Police are searching for suspects after two separate shootings in the Grays Ferry neighborhood.

The first incident happened on the 1800 block of South 31st Street just before 11:30 p.m. Monday.

Police say a 6-year-old boy was shot in the foot while playing basketball with friends and family.

According to investigators at the scene the boy's parents took him to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for treatment.

The boy's family says he broke a few bones in his foot and will need a cast, but is expected to recover.

Police say there had been between 10 and 20 people outside, including several family members who were playing basketball. Witnesses reported hearing one to three shots just after 11 p.m. and seeing a dark colored car in the area with no headlights, but it's unclear if it's connected.

Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said, "We couldn't find any ballistic evidence at this time. We don't have any description of the shooter or shooters. We don't have a motive for the shooting."

One of more than two dozen shell casings left at the scene of double shooting on the 1200 block of S. 28th St.

About an hour later three people were shot just blocks away on the 1200 block of South 28th Street.

A 38-year-old man died at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center from multiple gunshot wounds.

Later two other men, ages 40 and 45, showed up at two area hospitals by private vehicles. Both were shot in the legs.

The crime scene stretched more than a block with more than two dozen shell casings of different calibers.

Police believe the victims were either ambushed or involved in some type of shootout.

When asked if there was any connection between the two shootings, Philadelphia Police Captain Nicholas Brown said, "The police were not too far away investigating an earlier shooting involving a 6-year-old boy that right now appears to be unrelated. Other than that we have nothing else to say that these incidents are connected."

No arrests have been made in either case.
