Hundreds rescued from ski lift in Italy

A day on the slopes in the Italian Alps ended with a complicated rescue for nearly 200 people who got stuck on a ski lift.

High winds knocked a tree onto a gondola cable, bringing the lift to a standstill and leaving all of those riders stranded in the air.

Officials feared the cable would snap so they launched helicopters to drop rescuers onto each gondola.

The skiers were hooked to cables and slowly lowered to the ground.

No one was hurt.
