CHESTER TOWNSHIP -- Authorities say a child was killed and two adults were injured after an accident in the parking area of a pumpkin-picking festival in New Jersey.

The accident happened Sunday afternoon outside Alstede Farms in Chester Township.

The victims were struck by two shuttle buses.

A local resident and the mayor tell Eyewitness News that the heavy influx of traffic for pumpkin-picking has created a dangerous situation.

"This is a horrible, tragic accident that was completely avoidable with a little forethought, with proper staffing, with having adequate police presence here to control the traffic," said Chester resident Andrew O'Connor.

"This is an accident waiting to happen and I'm very frustrated as mayor that we can't do more to control the safety of individuals," said Chester Mayor Bill Cogger.

The mayor says he can't regulate the traffic, because it is on private property.

Authorities are investigating the accident.

The identity of the child and the condition of the other two victims have not yet been released.
