Juvenile probationer arrested with handgun in Wilmington

Police arrested a 15-year-old male on probation with a handgun in Wilmington, Delaware Friday night.

The incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. in the area of the 700 block of Wollaston Street.

Officers observed the juvenile who told them he was a probationer and had a curfew.

As officers were exiting their vehicle, the juvenile took off on foot.

Police say as the youth was running, he removed a 9MM handgun from his waistband and dropped the weapon to the ground.

The gun was later found loaded with 16 rounds.

The teen was booked on possession of a firearm by a person prohibited-juvenile, possession of ammunition by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and resisting arrest.

He was committed to the New Castle County Detention Center in lieu of $15,000 secured bail.
