BREWERYTOWN (WPVI) -- A fatal shooting led to a police standoff where the killer was suspected of hiding inside a home in Brewerytown. But police now say the gunman was not found, and remains at large.

It was around 5:15 p.m. when police were called out to the report of a shooting at an auto repair garage on the 2700 block of West Cabot Street.

Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small explains, "Upon police arrival they found a 48-year-old male victim inside of his garage laying on his back suffering from at least one gunshot wound to his chest. It appears to be a shotgun wound."

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

Investigating officers followed a trail of greasy footprints to an apartment on the 2600 block of West Girard Avenue.

SWAT team members, some in armored vehicles, moved in to the area.

They did take one person into custody who is believed to be the suspect's roommate. But they did not find the man they were looking for.

Chief Inspector Small says, "Right now we do have a name of a possible suspect and police are holding various last known addresses from where the suspect has known to reside."

Police don't know what the shooting was about. They are questioning a number of witnesses, and keeping an eye out at the addresses the suspect is known to frequent.

But so far, he remains at large.
