MEDIA, Pa. -- A man accused of having shot his caseworker to death and grazed his psychiatrist at a Philadelphia-area hospital complex before the doctor returned fire has been arraigned on charges in the case.
Forty-nine-year-old Richard Plotts was arraigned by video Tuesday from prison in Delaware County on charges of first- and third-degree murder, criminal homicide, reckless endangerment and weapons counts. He was previously arraigned at a Philadelphia hospital, but prosecutors said his return to Delaware County required another arraignment proceeding.
Plotts is charged in the July 24 shooting death of 53-year-old Theresa Hunt at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital. Authorities say psychiatrist Lee Silverman was grazed in the temple and thumb, but he crouched behind a chair, pulled out his own gun and fired several times, wounding Plotts.
