Police say a 42-year-old man is in extremely critical condition after being shot multiple times inside a car in West Philadelphia early Friday morning.

WEST PHILADELPHIA -- Police say a 42-year-old man is in extremely critical condition after being shot multiple times inside a car in West Philadelphia early Friday morning.

The shooting happened just before 1:00 a.m. on the 5500 block of Ludlow Street near South Sickles Street.

Police on routine patrol were flagged down by a woman who said a man was shot while inside a car.

The woman said, the victim was in the driver seat of a 2000 Buick LeSabre and was shot by someone in the backseat of the car.

The victim was shot once in the head and four times in the arms.

He was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Investigators are checking the surveillance video.
