SADSBURY TWP., Pa. (WPVI) -- The body of a man was recovered from a pond in Sadsbury Township, Pennsylvania Tuesday afternoon.

It was around 10:37 a.m. when area volunteer fire departments were dispatched to a pond near Bert Reel Park, located at 1265 Old Wilmington Road.

Locals refer to it as the Pomeroy Swimming Hole - an isolated swimming hole just beyond the border of the park.

This morning, 22-year-old Arrington Williams of Coatesville was swimming there with a group of friends, including two small children, when he went under and drowned.

He dived off a bridge abutment, surfaced, but he was struggling and went back under the water. His friends tried to rescue him by throwing him a rope swing.

However, by then witnesses had called 911 and police, paramedics, and firefighters arrived, but the man never resurfaced.

Rescuers tried to reach him using poles and ladders but couldn't.

At 1:33 this afternoon, a dive team recovered his body.
