Man killed, 2 injured after gunfire erupts in South Philadelphia

Police are investigating after gunfire left one man dead and two others injured in South Philadelphia.

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police are investigating after gunfire left one man dead and two others injured in South Philadelphia.

The incident happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday along the 500 block of Ritner Street.

Police said someone opened fire, hitting a 19-year-old man in the head.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say he had a gun in his hand.

A second man was rushed to Methodist Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said a third man arrived at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital with a leg wound.

Both were listed in stable condition.

Investigators are working to determine what sparked the gunfire, and who was responsible.
