Man shot at recreation center in East Oak Lane

EAST OAK LANE (WPVI) -- A 23-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot at a recreation center in Philadelphia's East Oak Lane section.

The shooting happened around midnight Tuesday on the 1100 block of East Chelten Avenue.

Police say a city employee discovered the victim while cleaning the pool at the Lonnie Young Recreation Center.

The worker heard a shot and then discovered a man sitting on a bench had been hit in the back.

Police say the victim was able to run a short distance before collapsing near the entrance.

Officers took him to an area hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.

Police were checking several surveillance cameras in the area for clues.
