KENSINGTON (WPVI) -- Police say a fight led to gunfire that left one man dead in the Kensington section of Philadelphia.

It happened in the 700 block of East Allegheny Avenue.

Police say the 911 calls started coming in around 11:30 p.m. Monday.

When police arrived, they found the victim lying in the middle of the road. He was shot in the head and back and was unresponsive.

Police rushed him to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. He just turned 30 on Monday.

"Based on witness accounts, this 30-year-old victim was involved in a physical altercation with other males in the immediate area," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told Action News. "And we believe this is the motive for this shooting."

Detectives interviewed witnesses and recovered surveillance footage from nearby businesses that captured the incident on camera.

"Our shooter is described as a male wearing no shirt and cut-off blue jean shorts," said Small. "He was last seen (fleeing) on foot in an unknown direction."

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Philadelphia police.
