Police say a man had to be rescued from his vehicle after crashing in Gloucester Township, New Jersey early Saturday morning.

The accident happened around 3:45 a.m. on College Drive near Winding Way.

According to police, the driver lost control, ran off the road and slammed into a utility pole.

Firefighters had to cut the victim from his vehicle.

He was taken by ambulance to a waiting medical helicopter and flown to Cooper University Hospital in Camden.

He is listed in critical condition.

So far, there is no word on why the driver lost control.

His name has not been released.

The crash caused portions of College Drive to be closed for several hours.

The crash remains under investigation.
