Manhole explosion results in Northeast Philadelphia power outage

An underground blast led to a power outage in Northeast Philadelphia.

NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- An underground equipment fault resulted in at least one manhole being blown off its base and a power outage in Northeast Philadelphia.

The incident took place around 8:15 p.m. Monday on Byberry Road and Evans Street.

Around 1,000 customers lost power.

Police, fire, and PECO crews responded and managed to restore power by 8:40 p.m.
