Witnesses say an armed suspect was seen fleeing the murder scene, an apartment building in Darby Borough. He may have been carrying a long gun.

DARBY BOROUGH, Pa. (WPVI) -- Police are searching for an armed suspect after a man was shot and killed in Darby Borough, Pennsylvania.

The incident happened at 2:30 a.m. Friday inside an apartment building on the 400 block of Main Street.

According to police, the victim, a man around 50 years old, was shot in a hallway.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses say an armed suspect was seen fleeing the area. He may have been carrying a long gun.

Police evacuated occupants of the building as a precaution.

"We took them out because we weren't sure if the shooter was still inside the building, whether he went in the building," said Darby Borough Police Chief Robert Smythe. "But then we got information that someone ran down the street."

The victim's name has not been released.

So far, there is no word what sparked the shooting.

Investigators are checking surveillance video for additional clues.
