PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (WPVI) -- National Guard troops from our area who are serving overseas will soon get a taste of home.

Liberty USO held its annual Christmas in July send off event Wednesday at the SugarHouse Casino in Fishtown.

The group is sending 14 hundred care packages to National Guard troops from Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Volunteers helped put together Philly Fun boxes, which were donated by the casino, and include snacks and energy drinks.

The National Guard explained: "For everyone that opens a care package it is a reminder that there is someone halfway around the world that cared enough to take the time out of their own day to collect a few items and send them on their way."

The packages are being sent to several different countries including Afghanistan and Kuwait.
