Neighbors displaced after row home fire in Port Richmond
PORT RICHMOND (WPVI) -- Five residents were displaced after a neighboring row home caught fire in Philadelphia's Port Richmond section and a fire chief was injured on the way to the call.
It happened around 2:00 a.m. Saturday in the 3200 block of Jasper Street.
Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the first and second floors of the home.
It took crews approximately 25 minute to bring the blaze under control.
Fortunately the home was vacant and no injuries were reported.
The Red Cross is assisting three adults and two teenagers from the home next door which sustained smoke damage.
No word on yet on the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, on the way to that call, a battalion fire chief suffered minor injuries in an accident.
Police say a car ran a stop sign and hit the chief's SUV on East Atlantic Avenue which was two blocks from the fire scene.
A laptop hit the chief in the chest, but he refused medical attention.
The woman driving the car was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
She faces a summons for running the stop sign and driving without a license.
